Angel’s Touch Dental Care was opened by Dr. Rosa Peña over 25 years ago in San José del Cabo, Mexico. She was the first woman President of the Dental Association in Baja Sur and won a national dental award as Dentist of the Year for Baja California Sur in 1997. While doing stories on dental tourism in Mexico, ABC’s Good Morning America and NBC News profiled Angel’s Touch Dental Clinic.
The clinic provides services and specialists for General Dentistry, Endodontics, Orthodontist, Periodontist, and Dental Surgery. Treatments include Amalgam/Mercury fillings removal removal, bridges, cleaning, crowns, dentures, implants, partials, root canals, veneers, and Zoom laser whitening.
After dentists are selected by Dr. Peña to work at the clinic, she then trains them in her techniques so that all patients may receive an ‘Angel’s Touch’. A few of the specialists, including Dr. Peña herself, graduated at the top of their class and Dr. Alphonso Peña is a Board Certified Dental Surgeon, who also practices in Baja. All of the clinic’s dentists studied in Mexico and speak English and Spanish. Their specialties and basic background may be viewed on the facility’s website.
With One-Price Pricing, makes it easy to estimate the cost of the most common treatments such as crowns, veneers, and root canals. The $500 per unit for porcelain crowns includes all the preparation, bridges and temporaries, and X-rays. In the United States, porcelain crowns cost between $800 and $2,200. A root canal is $500 regardless of its location.1 Stateside, a root canal may be $350-$540 for an incisor and $520-$800 for a molar. The estimate, which may be higher at some dentists, excludes any treatment and procedures necessary before the actual root canal.2 By saving thousands of dollars on medical treatment they would have received locally, people can either vacation practically for free or use the funds on something else. Dianne Patton, who was featured on Good Morning America, saved over $15,000 by seeking dental care in Mexico.3
About 80% of the clinic’s patients travel from the United States and Canada for dental care and the ‘Touch of an Angel’.4 Quality health care, without waiting periods, is available in Mexico. A medical facility’s procedures and sanitation practices can be poor no matter its location. Numerous specialists received their training in Mexico and/or the United States.
The website is nice and professional and it is easy to navigate through all the information provided. Basic and detailed descriptions of treatments and their procedures are available. Also provided, is a form for a free online consultation and cost estimate. The website radiates “touristy” with links to activities and attractions in Cabo and season specials for dental care.
In response to who is the best dentist in San José del Cabo, one person replied with Angel’s Touch Dental Care, but didn’t share any experiences. Instead he or she stated information that is available on the clinic’s website.5 However, one patient shared his horrible experience at the hands of one of the clinic’s dentists. Upon finding this out, the clinic apologized, the dentist was decommissioned, and Dr. Peña fixed and finished the patient’s treatment. He concluded by saying, “It is a clean, modern clinic and easy on the financial budget. It is impartially recommended if one wants fixing the teeth. But when booking an appointment be sure it is with Doctor Rosa Peña because she has the touch of an angel.”6
